About CambodiaCambodia's History
After a century of French Colonization ended in 1953, Cambodia was caught in the cross-fire of the Cold War. Between 1969 and 1973 it was heavily bombed during the Vietnam War in an effort to disrupt both the Viet Cong and the Khmer Rouge. In 1975, the radical Khmer Rouge regime, headed by Pol Pot, took power. The Khmer Rouge destroyed infrastructure and the toll in humanitarian terms was devastating to the progress of Cambodian people. During the 3 years, 3 months and 20 days of the Khmer Rouge regime over 2 million people died - one third of the population - through murder, torture, starvation and disease. Unfortunately, removal of this murderous regime was accompanied by the Vietnamese invasion which led to a prolonged civil war.
In 1981, three years after the Vietnamese invasion, the country was divided up between a further three factions that the United Nations euphemistically referred to as the Coalition Government replica rolex deepsea watches of Democratic Kampuchea. This consisted of the Khmer Rouge, a Royalist faction led by Sihanouk, and the Khmer People's National Liberation Front. The Khmer Rouge representative to the United Nations, Thiounn Prasith was retained. Throughout the 1980s the Khmer Rouge, supplied by Thailand, the United States and the United Kingdom continued to control much of the country and attacked territory not under their dominance. These attacks, compounded by total economic sanctions from the United States and its allies, made reconstruction virtually impossible and left the country deeply impoverished. After the war, the toll on the people was immense. Most of the people remaining had lost members of their families, leaving countless widows and orphans. In addition, many were left disabled from war and its after effects such as land mines. The people faced many obstacles to normal life - ill health, lack of education, unemployment and severe poverty. Moreover, the psychological trauma from years of war, compounded by the enduring suffering of many survivors, began to manifest in dangerous behavior. An increase was seen in drug and alcohol addiction, the spread of communicable and venereal diseases, violence within families, sexual abuse of children and child trafficking. The Avenger models are available in several dial colors,Richard Mille Replica with stencil-type figures or hour-markers, around the rubber strap or round the new Professional bracelet with remodeled links.
